Happy E3 everyone!

Lots of exciting Nintendo news was revealed today at the Nintendo Pre-E3 Press Conference. Two new Mario platformers, a new Metroid, and lots of other great looking games.

Sadly, they failed to make any mention of a new Zelda for Wii, and only briefly mentioned Spirit Tracks.

Luckily, a new trailer for Spirit Tracks has since been released, and we've got it here for your viewing pleasure!

The trailer is quite similar to the one they released at GDC, but it does have a few new tidbits. Link is shown using a whip to both fight enemies and to cross large gaps. It appears that the game will feature some boss battles involving the train, as Gohma is shown chasing the train through a tunnel while Link tries to fight it off with his cannon.

Nintendo mentioned that the game will be playable on the E3 show floor, so keep checking back to ZI for new info as it is announced.

Hey guys. I just wanted to direct your attention to IGN's hands-on impression of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. The article doesn't really contain any new information, it basically just goes over the three part demo that Nintendo is showing at their E3 booth. The three parts of the demo show off dungeon crawling, driving the train, and a boss fight.

Anyway, it's worth a look, since this is as close as we common folk will get to the game until it's release later this year. We'll update you on any new information as it becomes available.

Tonight, famed video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto held an E3 round table event for select members of the press. Besides talking about the two new Mario games announced earlier today, Wii Sports Resort, and Zelda: Spirit Tracks, he also briefly mentioned Zelda Wii.

Unfortunately, no trailer was shown, but he did show a sketch of a grown up Link. Apparently Link looks more grown up than ever before. We will try to get this sketch if it becomes available.

Miyamoto goes on to say that he is hoping to incorporate Wii MotionPlus into the next Zelda. He says game might only be playable using the peripheral.

He says that people should look to the archery and sword fighting in Wii Sports Resort to get an idea of where Zelda Wii may be headed. Apparently a main concern of his is to make sure that the controls make everyone happy.

The Z-I staff will keep bringing you Zelda info as it becomes available. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: Apparently Nintendo is aiming for a 2010 release date for Zelda Wii.

According to the Game Trailers developer walkthrough, Spirit Tracks is the sequel to Phantom Hourglass, and takes 100 years after PH. Link is also apparently an apprentice engineer in the game. Other than that, not much has been revealed.

As mentioned previously, Shigeru Miyamoto showed off conceptual artwork for the new Wii Zelda, which is currently undergoing development. At the time, this artwork was shown only to the select few members of the media who were invited to his Round Table discussion, but the Zelda gods have answered our prayers -- or more likely Nintendo just took pity on us -- and the artwork has since been leaked/released.

You can find it here.

Since it's release, speculation has been running rampant. Especially after comments made by Miyamoto where he pointed out that Link was sans-sword in the picture.

Is the being who resembles a Great Fairy actually the Master Sword? Many have come to think so. What other secrets might the artwork hold? Join in the discussion topic on our very on ZI forums and add your own thoughts into the mix. Webmaster and local Zelda Guru, Hirohiigo Togashi, has some interesting comments on the subject. Check it out!

We will bring you more info on Zelda Wii as soon as we can get our grubby little hands on it.

Miyamoto's comments in a recent interview with Wired indicate that Nintendo is mostly decided that Zelda Wii will indeed require the use of Wii MotionPlus.

"The goal at this point is that we would make Wii MotionPlus required in order to play Zelda," said Miyamoto. He went on to say, "The bigger hurdle for us is not really whether people have a Wii MotionPlus or don't have it, it's whether or not the experience is one where people will think they want to have a Wii Motion Plus in order to experience it."

Miyamoto previously told people to look toward the sword-play and archery in Wii Sports Resort to get an idea of how Wii MotionPlus will work in Zelda. These games have been getting favourable press from people who have gone hands-on with them at E3, so be sure to check out Wii Sports Resort for yourself when the game launches in about a month. Plus, it's an excellent chance to get a Wii MotionPlus peripheral in preparation for Zelda Wii since it is packaged for free with the game.
