Your scheduled server problems have been rather delayed today, and for that I apologise. I think I've got everything broken now, so you can relax.

The forums have been broken since early (too early) this morning, but this server stubbornly refused to compensate for my lack of knowledge about mod_rewrite until now.

I hope you enjoy your annoyance at the lack of a properly functioning website.

By the way, have you heard about Lord of the Hoops? It's a stunning film put together by amazing people!

I was wandering around the site today, and thought we needed a few new avatars. So, using some of the official-ish wallpapers from our collection, I made eleven new ones. And, being a user of PhpBB and Livejournal, I thought it was time to introduce the good old 100x100 resolution.

Since I can read Japanese, I have several imported Zelda manga books, too. It was my idea to spend the next couple of days using them to make some cool avatars... but I'm home for the weekend and the scanner here seems to be dead. So, in a few days, when I'm back at school with my good scanner, I'll work on that.

And now, for something completely different.

Or rather, something I should have done months ago. A new poll!

*fanfare plays*

Many scans and croppings later, here comes the first batch of new manga avatars. 18 of them. These were all scanned from the Akira Himegawa Zelda mangas that I own. So don't take 'em and claim you drew them or something, because we both know you didn't. =P

More next week!

Even before I could read Japanese, I had copies of the Akira Himegawa Zelda mangas. Yeah, I'm that much of a nerd. And I LOVED the all-star team of History of Hyrule and Zelda no Densetsu for translating them. They did the Zelda community a fabulous service, doing so much work so that we could all enjoy the comics.

But, sadly, two of the greatest Zelda sites on the 'net went down last year. With both gone, the Zelda manga was no longer readily available. You could probably Google them from somewhere, but they no longer had a "headquarters".

I'm to the point in my education where I can understand enough Japanese to be able to read and understand the mangas. So, in honor of History of Hyrule and Zelda no Densetsu, I'm happy to announce that I will begin presenting my own translations of the Zelda mangas, right here at ZI. I will be starting with the Akira Himegawa OoT and MM comics, and will move on to random doujinshis that I also own. This isn't set in stone - of course. Maybe I'll just be crazy enough to do more comics in the future - but this is a good starting point, I think. The scans of the pages, I'm happy to say, will also be of somewhat higher quality than we've had available before.

I've also given permission to display the comics to Zelda Realm, one of our new affiliates. So, my Akira Himegawa translations will be available there, as well.

I have already scanned and translated chapters 1 and 2 of the first OoT manga, but they're not yet available on the site. Draknek and I are currently working on a page navigation system. If we can't get that going relatively soon, I'll find some other way in the meantime.

And the manga is UP.

Let's all send Draknek lots of love for getting the navigation system set up! ^_^

I've completed the first three chapters of the first Ocarina of Time manga for your viewing pleasure, and they're lookin' pretty! My plan has been to get as much done as possible before my finals, which are in less than two weeks. I may be able to do some more work over next week, but there's no guarantee on that.
So, hopefully this is the start of something wonderful. I can only hope I can begin to fill the hole that was left when Zelda no Densetsu and History of Hyrule went down.
I've also given permission to Hiro's Realm and Rauru's Return, affiliates and friends of ZI, to display the comics as well.

NEW ZELDA DETAILS!

According to IGNCube, a Spanish publication has revealed a good chunk of new information regarding the hotly anticipated Legend of Zelda installment on the GAMECUBE set for release later this year. According to the article, the new Zelda will boast a world 2 to 3 times larger than that found in the beloved Ocarina of Time for the N64. This translates to a whopping 70 hours of Zelda gameplay! The article also confims that horseball combat will play a major role in the game.

Apparently, the game begins with Link working as a farmer at the age of 16. Apparently, Link will mature as the game progresses, but whether or not this means in terms of character development of physical development is not known. The town where Link begins his adventure is called Taoru Village, and it is an expansive area which acts as a tutorial to help players, new and old alike, get into the game. Some of the tasks that Link must undertake include carrying a heavy object for a pregnant lady, and herding cattle while mounted on horse back.

Apparently a new addition to the game is that Link's bow, which he can use instead of his sword while mounted, now has a finite range. This means he will have to more closer in order to get a good shot at his enemies.

Game produced Eiji Aounuma stated that they changed the water to transparent instead of going with the opaque surface like in Wind Waker in order to make the game more beautiful and open up subaquatic areas. Sounds like a water temple to me!

New information on the game will be released at E3 next month. We'll keep you posted.

Even more new Zelda details! Seems Nintendo has started to open the flood gates on this, their hotly anticipated, next installment in the Zelda series.

Apparently, Link does not hail for Hyrule. As mentioned in the pervious update, Link is from Taoru Village, and this is supposedly a neighbouring location to Hyrule, which supplies the larger region with livestock. As the story goes, every year Taoru Village sends a representative to meet with they Hyrulian neighbours, and this year, Link is sent as a last minute replacement since noone else is able to attend. On his way to Hyrule, Link uncovers something with causes him to embark on an all new, epic quest.

This latest installment in the Zelda series will feature controls very similar to those found in Wind Waker. Director Eiji Aonuma explains that though the controls are very similar, they have also been tweaked to add in some new movies such as the down-thrust. He also stated that the new game will see the return of the counter-attack move from Wind Waker.

Moreover; Mr. Aonuma stated that Ganon will be returning once more to cause Link no end in trouble. Seems a certain Princess will need some rescuing once more. It was also revealed that Link will have the ability to communicate with animals, perhaps throught the use of a new item.

The title of the new game was not revealed, however; Mr. Aonuma did mention that it would be very mysterious, and only those who are well into the game will undertand it.

That's all for now. Keep checking back from more information on the new Zelda as it become available.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention. Fishing will also be returning. That's right. All those magical hours you spent trying to catch the big fish in OoT can now be relived. Only this time it will look even better!

Okay! Chapters 4 and 5 of Ocarina of Time I are up.

There is little chance I'll get more translation work done before my finals next week are over. ...Actually, I'm going to go ahead and say that I can't do any more work until after next week's tests. That way, I won't be tempted to work on them when I should be studying.

Enjoy!

Apparently Zelda director Eiji Aonuma has hinted that Tingle will not be making a return in the upcoming Legend of Zelda for the GAMECUBE. It seems that someone has told him that there is much hatred for everyone's favourite, green Fairy. Who would have told him such things, I cannot wager a guess, but it looks like our next Zelda Quest will be Tingle-less.
