The Legend of Zelda Movie
Link is coming to the big screen for the first time after his flop on TV.
Nintendo spokesman Hiromi Kazuki confirmed today that a deal was reached in mid-March 2009 to create the first full-length live action Legend of Zelda film, with German director Uwe Boll leading the project as executive producer and director. The deal, which had originally approached directors David Finch of Seven and Fight Club fame and Zack Snyder of the recent Watchmen and 300, is set to begin shooting in late 2009 or early 2010.
Uwe Boll's agent described the director as "very excited" to begin shooting the film, and is pleased by the possibility to touch down on "contemporary political messages" thanks to the time travel mechanic employed by the Ocarina of Time. He said he is currently looking at scripts now, particularly from screenwriter Ritz Sterling.
Boll says that he intends to utilize a mixture of the games for his inspiration to appeal to the widest audience of fans while "surprising them with my own twists and turns" so that people can still enjoy a "surprise" ending.
Although no cast has been finalized, rumors put Scarlet Johanson as his likely candidate for Princess Zelda, and Tom Selleck as her companion and guardian, Sheik. No word has yet surfaced on who will play the primary character, Link.
