The Summoners Mirror

Chapter One: Elzo, The Summoners’ Village

Deep in the forests of Hyrule’s southern mountains there is a small village. There the Summoners live. Most of the Summoners have never left Elzo except to form a pact with a Great Fairy or on a mission from Hyrule’s royal family. Also no one outside Elzo knew where Elzo was located-except the royal family.

Things are about to change…forever.

A teenaged Hylian boy with jet black hair ran trough the village in a crazed frenzy. His robe flew out behind him.

“I’M LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!!!” He shouted. The boy skidded to a halt in front of a large building. Panting he opened the door and scrambled inside. A girl who looked exactly his age met him in the entrance.

“Sheesh…Shugo you sure are late a lot.” The girl said rolling her brown eyes. She had a long purple dress and a large pointed hat with a wide brim the same color.

“At least I don’t crash into people like you do Maple.” The boy named Shugo grunted indignantly.

“Anyway…” The girl named Maple said, “Sensei is going to kill you.”

Shugo sagged slightly with disappointment. An old woman with a tight bun entered the room.

“Shugo, so nice you could join us.” She said, “You’re late. Again. Were you daydreaming about the outside world again?”

Shugo nodded in defeat, “Yes Sensei.”

The woman shook her head, “Shugo my dear boy…You are training to become a Master Summoner. Just because you’ve been promoted to the Fairy Summoner class doesn’t mean you can slack off.”

Shugo groaned. Ever since he could remember…he longed to see the outside world-so did his twin sister Maple. Ever since he had heard of the Hero Link-he wanted to be just like him.

“Ah…come on Shugo.” Maple said, “Exercises begin now.”

“Ok…coming Sis…” Shugo moaned.

“Don’t worry one day we will see the outside world just like Gramps.” Maple said.

Shugo nodded and pulled out a pale blue mirror, “Ok, let’s get started.”

Several other people with varying ages filled the room all of them had mirrors.

“All right class.” The woman said, “Today’s exercise requires everything you have learned this past semester. Each of you must pass an obstacle course.” She pulled back a tapestry to reveal a large door.

“Yes Professor Mary.” The whole class said in unison.

“Shugo Aria you will go first.”

“Yes Ma’am.” Shugo gulped. This is probably my punishment…Shugo entered the door. It slammed shut behind him. He thought hard. The Water Fairy and the Wind Fairy…he had to use those new summonses in addition to the summons he already knew. A large abyss yawned at his feet. A ledge hovered in the middle.

Too big a jump for me…Shugo thought, I’d better summon the Wind Fairy.

Shugo took a deep breath, raised his mirror and began to chant, “I am the Fairy Summoner. Hear my cry and come forth-become the wind beneath my feet…I summon thee…come forth…WIND FAIRY!!!”

A green haze trickled out of his mirror followed by a Fairy donning a pale green gown and had sweeping long white hair. She spread her arms and a transparent bridge crossed the gap. Shugo ran across lightly as if he were walking on air.

“Thanks!” he called to the Wind Fairy. She vanished into a wisp of smoke and returned to the Mirror. He opened the next door. A huge fire greeted him there.

Quench the flames before my eyes open… A voice said. It came from the statue of the Eagle-Man-Elmzo. The guardian god of Elzo.

“I am the Fairy Summoner. Hear my cry and come forth-spread your gentle rains upon the flames…I summon thee…come forth…WATER FAIRY!!!” A mermaid like Fairy appeared from the mirror and spread her wings out. A gentle rain fell from her outstretched wings. The flames slowly dissipated. The statues eyes slowly opened.

“RIVER ZORA! WATER TEKITITE! HELP ME OUT!” Shugo shouted throwing two scrolls into the air, “FLOOD!”

A spider like creature and a Humanoid fish like creature appeared out of nowhere. Together they skated around the flames while the rain and Shugo’s Flood spell quenched the fire. Finally and just in time all the flames were gone.

Well done child. Elmzo said. A door to Shugo’s right opened. He ran in. Several Monsters met him in the small room.

“Stafolos…why did it have to be Stafolos..?” Shugo groaned unsheathing his sword. The Stafolos lunged at him. Shugo blocked it with his sword. He managed to get under its guard and slashed at its rib cage. The Stafolos staggered back and the other two leapt in.

“Typical…” Shugo grumbled pulling his Mirror out, “I am the Fairy Summoner. Hear my cry and come forth-become the vortex of battle…I summon thee…come forth…WIND FAIRY!!!” The Wind Fairy spun around the three Stafolos. Round and round and round until they were just a pile of bones, “Become my servant! O soul of my enemy I now purify thee become a Summon Spirit of Fairy Summoner Shugo!”

A black haze lifted from the bones. A sparkle of light transformed the black haze into a white haze and Shugo pulled out a scroll. The haze was sucked into the scroll. Shugo pocketed the scroll.

A loud shriek pierced Shugo paralyzing him. A tall gangly zombie advanced on him, No…not a ReDead…Shugo thought helplessly. The ReDead grabbed Shugo, wrapping its powerful arms around his body. Shugo screamed and began to struggle when it bit him.

“Ow…MOBLIN! HELP ME OUT!!” Shugo gasped. A Humanoid pig-Goblin creature popped out of a puff of smoke. The summoned Moblin swung its sword at the ReDead. It staggered and released Shugo. Shugo danced out of its reach and pulled out a Raku Pendant Ocarina. He put it to his lips and began to play it.

The Sun’s Song…

The ReDead froze. Shugo ran in and slashed at it with his sword repeatedly. Finally the ReDead collapsed. The Moblin Shugo had summoned vanished with a pop. The door just in front of him opened. It was the classroom.

“You passed.” Professor Mary said, “Well done. Next…Maple Aria.”

“Good luck Sis.” Shugo said.

“Thanks.” Maple said

After Training…

“Whew…I’m beat.” Maple said, “What do you what to do now Shugo?”

“I don’t know…” Shugo said, “Wanna go to the Deku Clearing?”

Maple did a few loop-the-loops on her broom and said nothing. An elderly man ran up to the twins.

“Shugo, Maple I need to talk to both of you.” He said.

“What is it Grandpa?” Shugo asked.

“You received a message from Princess Zelda.”

“FROM THE CASTLE!?” Maple squawked.

Their grandpa handed Shugo an envelope. It had the Royal Seal all right. Shugo opened it and unfolded the letter.

Dear Shugo and Maple Aria,

I am sending Link to Elzo on a very important mission. This concerns the Forbidden Well that your people are guarding. I require that both of you escort Link to your village-I am afraid that my father has not yet entrusted me with Elzo’s location. Please arrive at Hyrule Castle. I have enclosed a map for your use.

Good Luck!

Princess Zelda

“Sis…we…we’re actually going to the castle.” Shugo gasped reading the letter again.

“I’ve always wanted to see Hyrule!” Maple cheered, “This will be our first time in the outside world.”

“Well…In that case I can reply to Princess Zelda and tell her that you two leave Elzo tomorrow morning.”

“Thanks Gramps!” Mapla and Shugo both said in unison.

“We’re actually gonna meet Link!” Shugo said, “I’ve got a TON questions to ask him!”

“He’s like a kid with a new toy…” Maple said sighing.

“Come on lets go to Deku Clearing!” Shugo said. He grabbed hold of Maple’s broom and dragged her off south.

“Honestly Shugo…calm down…” Maple said rolling her eyes.

~Meanwhile~

A dark figure loomed in the darkness. The seal was broken. He would shed blood on the world once again.

“I am Ganondorf…” he said, “The World will be mine to rule…”

Ganondorf laughed evilly at the full moon.

Things will change…

Things will die…

Things will never be the same…
