Link's Journal
As I stepped out of Hyrule High, I looked over to the dark picnic tables. And there I saw a glowing angel playing her ocarina. My heart was pounding so hard, just tempting me to walk over there to talk to her. My mind circling around telling me to go and stay at the same time. And my legs just stood there, not moving at all. I rubbed the back of my neck for a while, then I bit my lip and walked over towards Zelda. Damn I was nervous; I mean what would she say…wait a minute, what the hell am I going to say! But it was too late; Zelda started to finish a very lovely lullaby, and looked up towards me. She smiled and nodded, "Hey there, you're that Link guy, right? Heh heh, you're almost in all of my classes, except for public speaking I mean. Did you like the song I played? Of course you did, tee hee. This ocarina is very important to me. It's been in my family for some time now." I just nodded, "Yeah… I like it a lot. Which is why I came out here." At that moment when Zelda smiled, I felt like my heart was lifting. For once in my life, I actually felt happy. But then the bell rang, and the people started to walk back into the school. "*sigh* Well, it's getting kind of cold out here anyway. See ya later, Link!" She picked up her books and walked towards the school. She's so beautiful, I kept thinking about how pretty she was for the rest of the day. And I got this weird feeling, as if I could just about talk in front of a hundred people! While I was walking back into the school, I noticed that in the corner of my eye; I saw Ganon in his car. He must have seen Zelda and I talking. Shit, I'm screwed now. He's going to beat me up, I know it. Damn, I mean I love Zelda so much, but Ganon isn't going to like that. Anyway, it was English class and I sat right behind Zelda. She smiled and said hi to me, so I said hi back. Then the most boring, yet aggravating teacher came walking into the classroom. He was a very fat biased teacher, bashing the conservatives and saying how bad we are. His name is Gaebora, Mr. Kaepora Gaebora. In which he demanded that you call him by his full name. So then he goes on to his lessons about the Revolutionary war, which somehow narrows do to him bashing the war effort in Iraq. Aye, did that piss me off! But then I noticed Zelda started to grind her teeth. Finally, she interrupted the teacher, "Excuse me, Mr. Kaepora Gaebora. But I don't appreciate your hatred for the war and our troops. Sure war looks bad at times, yes. But you have no right to attack what our troops are going through. The weird headed blob turned around and looked at Zelda, "Well, Miss Zelda. Knowing you're an intelligent student, I'm surprised you're going pro war on me. I'd thought you would have been smart enough to see how wrong this war really is." Zelda bit her lip a little, "Mr. Gaebora, with all due respect, you're in no place to bash a soldier in this war. Say what you want about the government, but with soldiers…those brave men and women are out there, bleeding and dieing, just so that others may live and have a taste of the freedom that we all love. In the eyes of a soldier, he and she are out there fighting for what "they" think is the right thing to do." Then the tub of lard smirked, "How could you see ‘this' as being the ‘right thing to do'? Don't you realize that terrorism will always be around? Some Man from Washington is making us go over there to die for a stupid cause." Zelda bit her lip more and started to look down. Everyone else was silent. But I was very pissed off. Aye, I hate to see someone as bright as Zelda, start to lose confidence. So I looked up, "So Mr. Gaebora…you just want us to just do nothing? And while we sit here, another 9/11 happens because you don't want war? Why are you defending the terrorists?" Zelda turned around and looked at me. And for some reason, I didn't even notice that I was actually speaking out my mind. That feeling at the pit of my stomach, what was it? It kept making me speak out more, "Mr. Gaebora, our soldiers aren't forced to go into battle. They're out there on their own free will and because of what they're fight for; for other men to be free! It's kinda like a battlefield. You have the shield, and I have the sword. We need both to defeat evil. If you just hide behind your shield the whole time, then how are you going to stop evil? That's why I play on offence with the sword, I'm able to attack the evil, but I can't defeat evil alone. We need both the sword and the shield to defeat evil." Nobody said a word for the next ten seconds, and then the bell rang. As I walked out of the classroom, Saria poked me in the arm with her pencil, "Dude, you were freaken awesome. You laid a smack down on that bastard! Good job, Link!" Saria winked and walked off to her next class. Just then, Zelda tapped on my shoulder. "Hey Link, I really liked what you said back there. I'm also proud of you, you're usually so quiet." She looked at me with her sparkling blue eyes. "Thank you Link, for speaking up along with me. I felt kind of alone saying all of that to Mr. Gaebora." Zelda walked up closer and hugged me for a while, "Well, see you in the next class!" "See ya!" I responded, feeling so damn happy. And she smelled nice too. I thought I was going to faint, I felt so proud. And that feeling at the pit of my stomach grew stronger and stronger, till I had the strength to talk to Zelda again. So I ran up towards Zelda, and I asked her if she'd like to go out with me sometime. Zelda turned around and smiled, and as she answered; I saw Ganon over in the far corner, with burning eyes fired towards me. Then he started to walk up in my direction…
